Mission

The purpose of Tech Prep is to prepare students, grade 9 - 14, for lifelong learning and workforce readiness through the development and implementation of applied academics, seamless curricula, and collaborative partnerships with business, education and parents.

 

Vision

Tech Prep students will have a meaningul, successful educational experience through a customized program-process of choice in which all regional school districts, businesses, parents, and students enthusiastically clamor for involvement.

 

What is Tech Prep?

About Tech Prep
Funded by the Carl D. Perkins Vocational and Technical Education Act of 1998 (V-TEA), and administered by the U.S. Department of Education. Tech Prep funds are allocated to each state under Title II of the Perkins Act. The New York State Education Department administers the Tech Prep Program through a competitive grant process.

A Tech Prep Program...

  • Consists of a at least a a"2 + 2" Program, combining a minimum of 2 years of high school (secondary school) with 2 years of college (post-secondary). Our Tech Prep program features a "4 + 2" Program - 4 years of high school + 2 years of college.
  • Provides a "seamless:, non-duplicative and sequential course of study under an articulation agreement between consortium participants.

The Purpose of Tech Prep...

  • Tech Prep is a "bridge" that links Secondary to Post-secondary to business... through a seamless system.
  • Tech Prep encourages students to continue with post-secondary education and training for better career opportunities.

What is CCTI?

About CCTI...
Cooperative Agreement between U.S. Department of Education, Office of Vocational and Adult Education and The League for Innovation in the Community College.

Purpose of CCTI...
The College and Career Transitions Initiative (CCTI) will contribute to strengthening the role of community and technical colleges throughout the United States in

  • easing student transitions between secondary and postsecondary education as well as transitions to employment
  • improving academic performance at both the secondary and postsecondary levels.

Through partnerships of postsecondary institutions with secondary schools and employers, the CCTI will further the development of academically rigourous programs of study organized around broad occupational areas that initially inlcude:
    Health Science
    Information Technology
    Education and Training
    Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics
    Law, Public Safety, and Security

These programs of study, aligning course offerings at the secondary level with increasingly advanced academic and technical courses at the postsecondary level, will equip students with the skills and credentials required for success in high-growth, high-demand, high-wage career fields.
