The overall purpose of the MST Pipeline Initiative is to re-energize, revitalize and refocus attention, interest and understanding of the embedded importance of math, science and technology to life-long learning and success. Our mission is to create a regional math, science and technology pipeline that results in the development of a workforce that is rich in M-S-T skills.

 

Vision Statement
Our region will be a model in generating math, science and technology interest, excitement and marketable skills.

Accomplishing Initiative Goals
To accomplish our main goal, the pipeline will focus on the following areas:

 

Collaborative Network
Establish a collaborative network of business, education, and economic development

Application-Based Curriculum

Build real-world MST connections into teaching and learning

Communicate MST Opportunities

Enhance awareness and understanding of MST efforts and opportunities

Roles and Responsibilities
The pipeline was created and is sustained through the support of the regional community and the collaborative servant leadership of the following groups (as depicted in the following diagram):

Descriptions of each group:

 

Board of Champions (download group list)
Group of influential chief executives from business, industry, economic development and education to whom the Core Team will look for feedback and support

Coalition Core Team (CCT) (download group list)
Group of leaders from industry, economic development and education to whom the Project Teams will report proposals and from which will come recommendations to the Board of Champions. This group will also convene Task Forces drive actions once buy-in is obtained from The Board of Champions

Project Team (PT) (download group list)
Group comprised of Coalition Core Team members and others that will develop and propose plans that will drive supporting actions

Task Forces (TFs)
Group of PT members and others convened by the facilitator of the overall MST effort or a Project Team Convener to drive the implementation of an initiative once it’s been adopted by the CCT and positively acknowledged by the BOC. TFs will not be required for every initiative. In many cases, the TF effort will be driven directly through the CCT.

  • Kicked off the Regional MST Pipeline Initiative with active support from more than 2 dozen leaders from business and industry, academia and economic development
  • Adopted a guiding vision and mission for the initiative
  • Convened Project Teams to develop action plan proposals for key focus areas (Collaborative Network, Curriculum Advancement/Alignment and Communications)
  • Seated a Board of Champions
  • Submitted a proposal to NSF ("Project Flying Start")
